“MISTRANSLATED: How to learn a language (badly) in 60 minutes” is an interactive stand-up comedy show about the absurd and hilarious side of speaking (and misspeaking) languages – delivered by a polyglot comedian who does comedy in 7 languages and has studied bits and bobs of a dozen others – you know, just enough to order food in German or tell a Mongolian nomad that no, you don’t feel like gambling away your family fortune.
This show is a master class in how to (badly) learn a foreign language, offering hacks and tips while featuring tales of languages fails, tonal triumphs and finally being able to understand what those Thai masseuses are saying. It is also an exploration of the value of learning foreign languages in 2026 – because who needs AI when you can show off your basic Mandarin to steal the heart of someone else’s grandmother?
Audience members are invited to dredge up whatever they remember from school, study abroad, Great-aunt Beth, you name it – to share stories on the common experiences that befall every language learner. It’s all in English, but with no promises you won’t walk away knowing how to bargain in Thai or discourse on dried fish in Norwegian.
